A recent news report in the Wall Street Journal says that about half the companies that eliminated their 401k match are planning on restoring it. The recession led many companies to cut costs, and the company match was often reduced, suspended or eliminated. With better business conditions, companies hope to restore their match. However, they may not return to the same old plan. Especially likely are changes to a match determined by the business's profitability.
The 401k is a great retirement vehicle even without a company match, but it is hugely better for workers with a match. Employees, hang in there.
